So, tonight we unveiled the new Yahoo logo, concluding our 30 days of change.
We hadn’t updated our logo in 18 years. Our brand, as represented by the logo, has been valued at as much as ~$10 billion dollars. So, while it was time for a change, it’s not something we could do lightly.
While I’m not a fan of the logo (it is slowing growing on me), I appreciate the in-depth look at the creative process from Yahoo!.
I also kind of have a business-crush on Marissa Mayer. I love what she’s doing at Yahoo!.
An in-depth look at a supposed two-day logo design process? C’mon. The video, bullshit as it is, took longer than two days to produce and get approved.
I like the strategic moves Mayer has been making with Yahoo, but the company badly needs a creative director that understands what things need to be changed (the structure of Yahoo.com, for one) and what things don’t (the old logo was not in need of any complete redesign, an overhaul at most).
